Ohio residents could get chance to vote on casino

Wednesday, July 16, 2008

In November, Ohio voters may get a chance to vote on whether to authorize a 600-million dollar gambling casino complex near Wilmington. That's about halfway between Columbus and Cincinnati. Casino backers are now wrapping up a well-financed drive to collect enough petition signatures to put the proposed constitutional amendment onto the ballot.

WKSU's statehouse correspondent Bill Cohen reports:

Listener Comments:

I am not a gambler but have been in the health care business for over 25 years.

From a direct business point of view, Ohio needs:

jobs
tax revenue
entertainment
shot in the arm for our economy

This casino is a destination site and it would be nice to see our dollars stay in Ohio instead of leaving the state to casinos that surround out state. Ohio needs to reverse the trend that we have suffered with for the last 20 years.

i think it's a wonderful idea!!! in my Effective Speaking class my group had to speak on this topic we all believe in ohio!!!we got to get this casino here!!! think of all the opportunities..... GOOOOOOOOOOOO !!! ohio!!!!!!!

The average loss at a casino is $78.00.As a senior citizen, and a once a month casino player, where else could we go meet friends have lunch, and get out of the house for such a small amount of money? Then add the money the state gets.It is a win win. One of the reason we left Ohio was the high real estate taxes,They left us with no extra money.Maybe the casinos could reduce the high real estate taxes. We could move home with our children and grands, maybe see them more than once a year.
