Conservatives ministers planning to defy IRS Friday, August 29, 2008
On Sunday, September 28th, some conservative Christian ministers plan to defy the IRS. Using what they call biblical standards, they want to endorse political candidates, even if that means the IRS revokes the churches' tax exemption. The ministers figure the punishment would open the door for them to go to court and challenge the constitutionality of the IRS rules that forbid religious groups from getting involved in partisan politics.
Last Friday our statehouse correspondent Bill Cohen laid out the arguments pro and con.
